April/May 2024 CVOA Update
Posted on May 19th, 2024

It’s a great time to get outside, and as you do, we want to encourage you all to help with goathead removal efforts and to report any sprinkler issues you notice. As you tackle your home improvement projects, please don’t forget to submit an ACC request.  Pool season is also almost here (yay!) and we could use some helping hands with the pool area clean-up.

Goatheads, cat’s head, bull’s head, devil’s thorn, puncture vine, devil’s eyelashes, caltrop weed, or tackweed: Whatever you call this weed, those thorns can be a pain - literally!  Mid-May is the best time to tackle these menacing weeds before they bloom and go to seed.  Check out this video on how to identify and properly remove this invasive weed: https://youtu.be/hdMdzdqt1Sk.  If you notice any of these weeds in our neighborhood, please do us all a favor and properly remove them to prevent further propagation and spreading. You can report larger patches of the weeds to our property manager cdegenhardt@sentrymgt.com.

Our irrigation system has been turned on for the year and we are asking everyone to please report any sprinkler issues you notice in the neighborhood to our property manager cdegenhardt@sentrymgt.com.  Our irrigation system covers quite a large area and some issues can go unnoticed.  Please also keep in mind that some sprinkler coverage issues are more difficult to address because our system is imperfect and has its limitations such as unfiltered water, pressure issues, large areas to be covered, and aging system.  Every year the Board reevaluates how to make improvements considering those limitations, our existing landscape design, and our budget.

And speaking of our landscaping, our contract with Aloha Grounds is set to terminate at the end of this year.  As a matter of due diligence, the Board is obtaining new bids for landscaping services for all of our common areas.  If you have any particular requests or matters you think the Board should consider in its evaluation of landscaping bids, please submit those to cdegenhardt@sentrymgt.com.

In preparation for the pool season, the Board will be holding a pool area clean-up day on May 11th at 10:00 a.m.  This will mainly include sweeping and blowing the concrete of any debris and washing and setting out pool furniture. The Board would appreciate a helping hand to make the work go quickly and easily.  Pool area landscaping, pool bathrooms, and pool maintenance matters are all covered by our contractors, but the pool area clean-up efforts have been covered by volunteer efforts to help the Board save money.  Bring a helping hand and a broom or a leaf blower if you have one.  We will have a couple power washers to assist with cleaning up the pool furniture.

Our pools are scheduled to open on Friday, May 24th. To celebrate the pool opening, Slay the Snow, a snow cone truck, will be coming from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on May 25th.  Even if you don’t plan on swimming, head over to the Rec Center for a fun treat.

As part of our ongoing pool work, we have also been implementing some improvements to increase the efficiency and longevity of our pool systems.  You may have already noticed that the Board has hired JL Winters for this work.  JL Winters will also be providing our pool maintenance services this year.  MAV security will continue to provide pool security services for us.  If you have any ideas or requests for the upcoming pool season, now is the time to submit them to the Board.

Our next monthly Board meeting will be May 21st.  The meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. with a homeowner forum to provide homeowners an opportunity to address any matters with the Board and share your thoughts and ideas.
